Optatec 2024 – Meeting Place for Light Aficionados

Optatec Internationale Fachmesse für optische Technologien, Komponenten und Systeme 52A0432 SCHALL Optatec 3000 scaled uai

Roughly two months remain until the 16th Optatec international trade fair for optical technologies, components and systems. All experts involved in research into light will meet at the traditional trade fair venue in Frankfurt from the 14th through the 16th of May, 2024. The highly specialised top event deals with optotechnology, image processing, new technologies, manufacturing processes and machines. For three days, the leading trade fair brings optics fans together from various sectors and different countries. It builds bridges between research and industry and is distinguished by a world-class supplementary programme.

Over 300 exhibitors will explore a special theme, namely light, in light-flooded hall 3.1 at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre from the 14th through the 16th of May, 2024. Light is at the centre of attention at Optatec. “The study of light, new insights and discoveries, new processes, new equipment and new end products – the highly specialised trade fair showcases all of this in an impressive manner. It covers future topics in the field of new technologies, new manufacturing processes and new machines for optotechnology. Nowhere else do international experts, manufacturers and users meet in such a focused manner as at Optatec, which is recognised and acknowledged worldwide as the leading trade fair in the field of optical manufacturing technology.

High Levels of Internationalism

“Well over half of the exhibitors come from outside of Germany,” says project manager Fabian Krüger from trade fair promoters P. E. Schall. “They value the opportunity of finding their relevant target groups at Optatec, and of being able to discuss direct solutions in a personal exchange of expertise,” continues Krüger. Users of optics and other interested parties come to Optatec from all industry sectors such as robotics and automation technology, laser technology, the automotive industry, aviation and aerospace, medical technology and medical imaging, as well as lighting technology. As a result, it’s the ideal setting for exhibitors to showcase their new products.

Clear-Cut Targeting of Specific User Groups

Optatec exhibitors are manufacturers of optical components, systems, modules and complete solutions that utilise the special properties of light for technical applications. Manufacturers of photonics components, production systems and hardware for the production of optical components are represented at the trade fair as well. The Optatec community also includes providers of analysis and evaluation software and tools. New technologies, new manufacturing processes, new machines and new applications are at the centre of attention. Research and science also take advantage of Optatec as a communication platform covering all aspects of photonics.

Training and the Promotion of Young Talent at the Technology Park

A “Training and Research” technology park will be held again this year with participants including the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the Technical University of Central Hesse and the Rhine-Main University of Applied Sciences. On the one hand, research results flow directly into product developments and practical system solutions. On the other hand, young people gain direct contact with actual practice and relevant companies. SPECTARIS, the German Industry Association for Optics, Photonics, Analytical and Medical Technology in Berlin, also takes advantage of Optatec as a valuable communication and education platform: two workshops are being prepared for the 15th of May, 2024. The “Workshop on new developments in the DIN Standards Committee for Precision Mechanics and Optics (NAFuO)”, organised by DIN and SPECTARIS, will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The supplementary programme will continue from 1 to 3 p.m. with the “Workshop on software packages for optical and precision-mechanical design” organised by SPECTARIS.

International Light Day During Optatec 2024

“This year’s trade fair dates even coincide with International Light Day on 16 May 2024,” says Fabian Krüger with pleasure. “UNESCO initiated this day of action in 2017 in order to draw attention to light-based technologies and raise global awareness of the achievements of light science. Optical technologies are recognised as a cultural heritage which is worthy of protection.” Optatec’s topics are becoming increasingly important in all industrial and non-industrial sectors. Driven by growing quality requirements, as well as increasing levels of automation, digitalisation, miniaturisation and the use of autonomous systems, optical technologies are gaining significance and are indispensable in many areas of life.

Optatec is held regularly once every two years and serves as the ultimate meeting place for the optics and image processing sectors. The trade fair format is focussed on its highly practical concept with direct, pragmatic user benefits. High levels of internationalism and top technologies are good arguments for expert visitors to spend a day at the trade fair in Frankfurt. A small but exceptional booming field of endeavour: optotechnology and image processing will play a key role in shaping the future. And thus everyone interested in light should visit Optatec in Frankfurt from the 14th through the 16th of May, 2024. All light aficionados are more than welcome!
