In contrast to electronics, i.e. the technical mastery and exploitation of electrons or the flow of electrical current, photonics encompasses the use of photons in optical technologies such as laser, digital image processing, optical measuring technology, optical data transmission and lighting technology.<\/p>\n<p>Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Rhein Main University of Applied Sciences and Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen will be presenting their Master\u2019s degree programmes such as \u201cOptotechnology and Image Processing\u201d, \u201cApplied Physics\u201d and \u201cOptical System Engineering\u201d live at the trade fair from 5 to 7 May.<\/p>\n<p>The Common Booth in Hall 3.0. offers a unique opportunity for interested parties to find out more about these specialised degree courses. We all make use of them every day, for example by means of a smartphone camera with face recognition, energy efficient LED lamps, high-speed optical data transmission on the Internet and new types of flat-panel display screens. German companies are often amongst the market leaders in these fields of technology. 120,000 people work in the photonics sector in Germany, and the numbers continue to rise.<\/p>\n<p>At the \u201cTraining and Research \u2013 Study Photonics\u201d Technology Park, young people who are interested in modern technology will be presented with hands-on optical technology and opportunities for asking questions: five universities will present their course offerings with reference to the optical technologies. Fascinating exhibitions will offer insight into the discipline and current research, and will provide the opportunity of \u201csizing up\u201d the professors. Graduates of these courses of study will furnish visitors with first-hand information regarding their daily work during a series of talks entitled \u201cGraduates Report on Actual Practice\u201d.
